Sunday recap: Sacks and turnovers the story of our lives

In the aftermath of Saturday’s 24-7 loss to Arkansas and its SEC-worst defense, Auburn offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler summed up his squad’s performance rather simply.

“Sacks and turnovers are the story of our lives right now,” Loeffler said.

For sure, five turnovers and eight sacks was the cause of Saturday’s debacle at Jordan-Hare. Quarterbacks Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley were each sacked four times and there is now the making of a full-blown quarterback controversy on the Plains.

Both coach Gene Chizik and Loeffler said the quarterback position will be assessed after reviewing Saturday’s game tape. Frazier, who went 9-for-14 for 118 yards with an interception, did not want to call it a competition for the starting job but said he supported Moseley after being pulled at halftime.

“I wouldn’t say (we’re) competing for it. We’re just going out there to get better,” Frazier said. “Whoever coach Chizik thinks will do better or whoever has the best matchup against Ole Miss, that’s who we’ll put in.

“I supported Clint 100 percent. I’m here trying to win as a team. If Clint gives us the best chance to win, I’m behind him 100 percent.”

Moseley was 13-for-21 for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, both in the end zone. The timing of the interceptions – late in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand for Arkansas – was of little comfort for Moseley.

“I felt pretty good about how I played besides those two balls,” Moseley said. “I wish I had them back more than anything in the world. It kills me to know we were right there and especially in the red zone.”
