The list of opposing players to garner accolades after playing Auburn continues to grow as Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Flowers had 3.5 sacks, two quarterback pressures and five tackles (all career highs) in Arkansas’ 24-7 win at Auburn on Saturday.

“I guess you could say I had a chip on my shoulder,” said Flowers, whose sack total is the highest single-game performance in SEC this season and tied for fourth in the FBS. “Coming back here and knowing that Auburn didn’t give me a scholarship.”

Flowers is the third player to be recognized by the SEC for his strong performance against the Tigers. Previously, Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell (20-for-29, 222 yards, 3 TD) was named Offensive Player of the Week and LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery (3.5 tackles for loss and a safety) was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their efforts against the Tigers.

Flowers, a Huntsville native, said he was looking forward to putting on a show for the friends and family who came to see him play Saturday.

“That’s what I’ve been thinking about all season,” Flowers said. “I said before the season, if you didn’t offer me you better not play me. So I went out there and made sure that they knew they missed and opportunity.”

Auburn wide receiver Emory Blake was on the Other Outstanding Performances list with his 10 receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown.
