Clint Moseley named Auburn’s starting QB vs Ole Miss

Clint Moseley will be Auburn’s starting quarterback for today’s game at Ole Miss, an athletic department spokesman said Friday afternoon.

Moseley, who went 13-for-21 for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions and was sacked four times in the second half of last week’s 24-7 loss to Arkansas, will get his first start of the season as he replaces Kiehl Frazier as the Tigers’ starter.

“I felt pretty good about how I played besides those two balls,” Moseley said of his performance after Saturday’s loss. “I wish I had them back more than anything in the world. It kills me to know we were right there and especially in the red zone. It’s part of growing up, part of being older now. Just got to put it behind me, not let it affect anything else.”

Last season, Moseley replaced Barrett Trotter as Auburn’s starter after seven games and started the Chick-Fil-A Bowl but left in the first quarter due to an ankle injury.

Moseley started against Ole Miss last season and went 12-for-15 for 160 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-23 Auburn win.

As of Thursday night, Auburn coach Gene Chizik said the coaches were still reviewing film and deciding between Moseley and Frazier. Chizik and offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler said the competing quarterbacks had equal reps with the first team during practice this week.

Frazier is 56-for-103 for 664 yards with two touchdowns and eight interceptions in five games as the starting quarterback for Auburn (1-4, 0-3 SEC) this season. His 99.4 quarterback rating ranks 119th of 122 qualified players.

“Whoever coach Chizik thinks will do better or whoever has the best matchup against Ole Miss, that’s who we’ll put in,” said Frazier, who went 9-for-14 for 118 yards with an interception and was sacked four times in the first half of last week’s loss. “I’m here trying to win as a team. If Clint gives us the best chance to win, I’m behind him 100 percent.”

Moseley and Frazier were not available for comment this week.
