Prosch’s role continues to increase

After getting his first carry as a Tiger last week against Arkansas, fullback Jay Prosch saw his role increase against Ole Miss on Saturday.

His first catch in an Auburn uniform led to a Tre Mason touchdown in the second quarter when he caught it in the left flat and took it 8 yards to the 1-yard line. Later in the second quarter he pancaked his man as Mason went untouched around left-end.

Prosch had a 4-yard run in the third quarter to keep the drive alive on a 3rd and 1 that eventually ended in a 31-yard field goal.

Primarily a lead-blocker since his days with the Illini, Prosch is liking his new role in the Tiger offense.

“Oh yeah for sure,” Prosch said. “It was more fun for me and exciting so I definitely enjoyed it.”

Coming in the Tigers had been struggling on offense. Despite the Tigers’ 41-20 loss to the Rebels, Prosch said the offense is moving closer to finding an identity.

“I believe so,” he said. “I think that we were in it for a while. Somebody said earlier we kind of lost it later in the game, which may be true, but we definitely were hitting it and we have the ability to run the ball. From my point of view, I like that kind of football obviously because I’m a fullback. I’m a little biased.”

The Auburn running backs combined for 113 yards on 26 carries for two touchdowns. Down by four to start the fourth quarter, the Auburn offense failed to gain a first down in the final quarter as they saw the margin increase to 21. Prosch said even though they couldn’t close out the game, no one in the locker room has given up on the season.

“I think that from the overall team perspective I think we’re all just trying to get that SEC win and keep moving forward and trying to stick together,” Prosch said. “All we’ve been through, everybody’s really close so were just going to keep going and I don’t see us falling apart.”
