Prosch liking his new role

Fullback Jay Prosch said one of the biggest differences for him since he joined the Tigers is that he is getting the ball. In two years at Illinois he had two carries for nine yards and one catch for one yard.

In the last three games Prosch has three carries for 12 yards and three catches 17 yards. He had a five-yard carry and two catches for nine yards is last week’s game against Vanderbilt.

“I’ve always thought I had hands,” Prosch said. “I’ve never really gotten the opportunity to get the ball much so now hopefully that will open up some more. We’ll see.”

Prosch transferred to Auburn from Illinois and said another difference is that he is being used more as a pass blocker.

“Not as much as I’ve done here so far but it was definitely something we did,” he said. “You have to be a little bit on your heels. You can’t lunge at people. You have to let them make the move and play off their move so its not really an attack-type thing. You definitely have to go at it with a different mindset (than run blocking).”

Prosch said technique was the focus in Tuesday’s practice and despite the team’s 1-6 start, he is maintaining his positive attitude.

“Its a grind,” Prosch said. “I think everybody’s a little down because its almost impossible not to be. But I think that you just have to stay positive and even though some people may think that’s stupid, or that’s impossible, its not what I think. We’re in this together and we have no other choice except for be positive and look forward.”
