Wallace’s role continues to grow

After being used solely as a runner this season, quarterback Jonathan Wallace threw his first pass of his Auburn career against Vanderbilt on Saturday. He threw a short pass to the right side to fellow freshman Ricardo Louis for 11 yards.

“It’s very exciting just being able to go out there and throw a pass,” Wallace said. “Of course as a quarterback you would like to throw more. I know my role. I’m going to execute my role and I’m going to continue to do that.”

Since making his debut against LSU, coach Gene Chizik said that Wallace’s role would continue to grow as the season progressed. Used primarily in the Wildcat formation, Wallace has 24 carries for 35 yards this season.

“They’ve put it in little by little,” Wallace said. Its just something that we’ve been working on. So we’re slowly expanding. The biggest part about it is preparation I would say. Just keeping the mindset that everything can be called once you’re out there.”
