Chris Davis had a concussion, Onterio McCalebb still in mix

Auburn coach Gene Chizik said starting cornerback Chris Davis, who did not play against Texas A&M, suffered a concussion during the Arkansas game. He did not say if Davis, who has made 34 tackles, will be able to play this week.

“He had a concussion a couple of weeks ago,” Chizik said. “Those types of things are very touch and go. He tried to come back in the Vanderbilt game and kind of had some recurring issues with that.”

McCalebb still in mix

Running back Onterio McCalebb had just one carry for minus-eight yards against Texas A&M. It was by far the fewest carries for McCalebb this season, whose previous low was eight.

Chizik said there was not a health or production concerns about the senior tailback.

“A lot of times with his carries, a lot of them are read plays, so if we are reading a guy and that read gives us the opportunity to give him the ball, he’s going to get it,” Chizik said. “We felt like we wanted him to touch the ball anywhere from 10 to 12 times depending on the circumstances and the game became something that was completely different from a score standpoint, so we had to get away from a little bit of some of that stuff, but I wouldn’t read into that at all.”
