Chizik says ‘you can’t expect a miracle’ with Wallace

On the Tiger Talk radio show Thursday night, Auburn coach Gene Chizik said practice this week with true freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace has gone well.

Wallace, who went 6-for-9 for 122 yards with two touchdowns and had 13 carries for 71 yards in the second half of last week’s loss to Texas A&M. Chizik didn’t take anything away from Wallace’s success last week but did say “the game at that point was not at a good place,” and Wallace was not seeing as many blitzes and pressures.

“We expanded the plan basically on the spot knowing he’s that football savvy,” Chizik said.

Auburn coaches and players have been showering Wallace with praise this week but Chizik cautioned fans not to get too far ahead of themselves.

“You can’t expect a miracle on his first start,” he said.
