Whitaker says Bulldogs like sibling rivalry

Defensive tackle Jeff Whitaker returned to practice after being out the last three weeks with a back injury. He said he is a “full go” for Saturday against Georgia. Whitaker, from Warner Robins High School in Georgia, said playing the Bulldogs is like a sibling rivalry.

“Its like you’re fighting amongst cousins, brothers,” Whitaker said. “Its a big rivalry, you want to win, but you can just check out before the game. You can see and hand full of people from this side and that side going over, talking, saying how every thing’s going.

“I grew up in a house with eight. Eight kids and six boys so, I know how brothers go at brothers. If you walked in the house and watched us go at each other, you’d think we weren’t related to each other. That’s how I look at this.”

Whitaker was a four-star recruit and narrowed his choices to Auburn, Georgia and Miami before walking out in an Auburn warm-up suit on signing day. He said there is something special about playing the team from his home state.

“Georgia was one of my top three at the end of the deal,” Whitaker said. “A lot of guys are still over there that recruited me. I got much love for coach John Lilly my recruiting coordinator. Coach Lilly is the tight end coach if I’m not mistaken. I really have a lot of love and respect for him so, its going to be fun.”
