‘Nothing has changed’ regarding Gogue’s outlook of football program

Nothing has changed.

That’s the message from Auburn’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Keeter, regarding the school’s beleaguered football program.

According to AuburnUndercover.com, Auburn University president Dr. Jay Gogue recently told members of the school’s Board of Trustees he plans to form a committee after the season to determine the future of the football program, which is 2-7 and 0-6 in the SEC – the worst season in 60 years for the Tigers. Auburn hosts No. 5 Georgia in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry on Saturday night.

“As Dr. Gogue said in a recent message to the Auburn family, the football program will be thoroughly evaluated. Nothing has changed,” Keeter wrote in an email to The Advertiser.

Gogue issued a statement on Oct. 25 via the school’s website saying he had heard from many members of the “Auburn Family.”

“I know your concerns are sincere and heartfelt, and I share many of them. As we do every year, the football program will be evaluated in an objective, thorough and professional process,” Gogue wrote in the statement.

An Auburn spokesman said Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs and football coach Gene Chizik “don’t have a comment at this time” regarding the report of Gogue’s statements to the board.

Chizik is under contract through 2015 but has a buyout in his contract which will depreciate to $7.5 million on Dec. 1.
