Alabama A&M coach Jones quotes

Head Coach Anthony Jones

On the experience overall…

“I think Auburn is Auburn, an SEC school. We came down here and had the chance to compete. I’m thankful to God that we were given that opportunity. It was a great experience for our student-athletes, our coaches and our Alabama A&M family, our alumni. It was amazing to me how supportive our fans were. We came out at the start of the game. They gave us a standing ovation in the corner. They came out in numbers. At the end of the first half, they gave our kids another standing ovation for their efforts. I’m proud of Alabama A&M University.”

On the game overall…

“I think we played hard. I think we put ourselves in the position to make some plays. We came up short in a couple of opportunities there towards the end of the game. We made some mistakes. I promised our guys that we weren’t going to give up just like we didn’t in the first half, so we kept plugging. We made a mistake. Their kid made a big interception and returned it back for the touchdown. They kind of got a cheap one on that. We had an opportunity to compete and I felt like we did.

On what can be taken away from the game…

“That we can compete not only against a team like Auburn, but against anyone. We’ve got to make sure that we take care of the little things, and that’s going to be my message to the team next year, to take care of the little things for the big rewards. If we are able to do that, then we will have success. The effort was there, just got to take care of the little things.”
