Uzomah relieved to have Malzahn Back

After nine days of chaos surrounding the Tigers’ coaching vacancy, Gus Malzahn’s introduction put a stop the the speculation and banter. Tight end C.J. Uzomah said he is glad the coaching search is over.

“I feel I speak for the team in that we’re all a little relieved that we do have a head coach and especially a coach like coach Malzahn,” Uzomah said. “It’s been kind of challenging but I think now that we have a coach and it is coach Malzahn that it’ll be a lot smoother from here on.”

Uzomah played tight end this season but was a wide receiver for Malzahn when he was offensive coordinator for the Tigers. Uzomah said he does not know what role he will play next season, but is happy to go back to a high-tempo offense.

“It’s fast paced, it’s exciting and I think players like playing in that kind of system,” Uzomah said. “Just knowing him and what he’s about, his personality. It’s awesome for him to be back. It’s going to be a little challenging just because we have to kind of throw everything re-learn everything.”
