Reports: Charlie Harbison to join Auburn staff

Clemson co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison will join the Auburn staff, according to multiple website reports.

AuburnUndercover.com and Rivals’ Clemson site TigerIllustrated.com were the first to report Harbison, 53, will join Auburn’s staff and reunite with defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson. Harbison and Johnson worked together at Alabama in 2000 and at Mississippi State in 2007.

Harbison is in his second tour at Clemson, also serving as defensive backs coach from 1995-97. He has coached in seven bowl games in his seven years at Clemson.

At Mississippi State, where Harbison was defensive coordinator and safeties coach, the Bulldogs were seventh in the nation in pass defense and 20th in the nation in pass efficiency defense in 2007.

Harbison would be the third assistant coach hired under Gus Malzahn after Johnson and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. Malzahn was named Auburn’s 26th head football coach on Tuesday.
