Burgess’ apartment burglarized, championship rings stolen

The 2010 BCS National Championship and SEC Championship rings belonging to Auburn tight end Blake Burgess were stolen from his off-campus apartment on Tuesday, according to Auburn police Captain Tom Stofer.

“The rings that were stolen from him have a great deal of sentimental value and he would certainly like to get those back,” Stofer said. “We’ll do the best we can to try to help him recover his rings.”

An Auburn athletics spokesman was unable to say if the rings would be replaced for Burgess in the event they cannot be found. The spokesman declined to comment on the burglary.

An Xbox video game console and an AU Letterman’s jacket with the number 63 on the collar were also stolen from the apartment, which was unlocked, sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to Stofer. Burgess, who wore number 48 this season, wore 63 during the 2010 season.

Stofer said Burgess’ roommate, who he did not identify, reported approximately $30 in cash was also taken from the apartment, which is located on the 400 block of North Donahue Drive near the Auburn campus.
