VanGorder loses out on Panthers job

AUBURN — One former Auburn coach who remains out of work is defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder. A candidate for the Carolina Panthers linebackers coach job, VanGorder lost out to former New York Giants assistant Al Holcomb, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

VanGorder twice refused to speak to reporters when he was spotted at Senior Bowl practice in Mobile on Tuesday. He is under contract at Auburn for $850,000 annually through June 3, 2014.

The only other member of Gene Chizik’s staff who has yet to find a new position is wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor – believed to be the subject of a reported NCAA investigation into Auburn’s recruiting. Chizik also has not found a new job, though he will be a guest analyst for ESPNU on National Signing Day Feb. 6.
