Newton says ‘it was kind of a circus’ when he first got back to Auburn

AUBURN — Cam Newton made headlines when he returned to Auburn in January to continue working toward his degree.

The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner’s every move was chronicled on Twitter in his first days back on the Plains. Making a promotional appearance in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, Newton told the Charlotte Observer the celebrity reception has died down a bit.

“It’s smoothed out now. When I first got on campus, it was kind of a circus. But that’s kind of what I expected,” Newton said, according to the Charlotte Observer’s Joseph Person. “But it’s nothing but love, man. You go back and you see people’s reaction. You take a couple of pictures and you see what it does to a particular person, and you appreciate it your influence.”
