Tigers in Mix for offensive lineman

AUBURN — Offensive lineman Deon Mix has Auburn in his mix for schools heading into National Signing Day. The 6-4 315-pound Batesville, Miss. native and former Mississippi State commit listed Auburn among his finalists along with Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Georgia.

“It went real good. I really liked it,” said Mix, a four-star prospect by Rivals and three-star by 247Sports and Scout, of his visit to AU this weekend. “It’s something I’m going to have to go home and pray about.

“The family vibe, the people here, the team, everything. It’s great. It’s an awesome city  and it’s definitely something I’ll consider.”

Mix said his decommitment from MSU has not removed the Bulldogs from his possibile destinations come National Signing Day on Wednesday. He plans to announce his choice at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

“It was like I had to do some soul searching and I didn’t think Mississippi State was the right thing for me at that time,” Mix said. “But I’m not counting them out because I’ve been committed to them so long, so they kind of got that edge.”

The Auburn coaches told Mix, who played tackle in high school, that he projects to play either as a guard or at center because he’s “not tall enough to play tackle.”

“Whatever I can do to further my career,” he said. “Wherever they want me at, that’s where I’m going to play and work my best at it.”
