AUBURN — Junior defensive tackle Devaunte Sigler was dismissed for a violation of team rules, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced in a statement Friday evening.

“We have high standards for our players,” Malzahn said in a statement. “They will represent the team and Auburn the right way.”

A native of Mobile, Ala., Sigler played in 18 games in his career, recording 12 tackles. He played in five games and make two tackles last season and had 10 tackles including 1.5 for loss in 2011. He recorded 80 tackles with five for loss and one interception returned for touchdown and earned Class 4A honorable mention all-state while a senior at B.C. Rain.

Sigler is the first player dismissed under Malzahn, who was hired on Dec. 4, and the fourth player to leave the program for any reason since then. Offensive guard Christian Westerman transferred to Arizona State, quarterback Clint Moseley is no longer with the team but still enrolled in classes and running back Mike Blakely transferred from Auburn.

Sigler was among several returning defensive tackles for the Tigers including Angelo Blackson, Kenneth Carter, Gabe Wright, Jeff Whitaker, Tyler Nero and JaBrian Niles. Junior college transfer Ben Bradley is also on campus as Auburn, which has begun winter workouts and starts spring practice on March 27.
